History of Uplands Thornhill

This area of Thornhill was founded in 1794.  The first setter west of Yonge St. was Asa Johnson.  Later in 1820, Benjamin Thorne arrived and opened and operated a Gristmill, a Sawmill and a Tannery. The area became known as Thorne's Mill, then in time Thorne's Hill, and with time Thornhill as is known today. Thorne took his own life in 1848, after the wheat market crashed.  From 1830 to approxiamately 1850 Thornhill experienced large growth including the building of many churches which still exist today. The growth never stopped.

Uplands Real Estate

The Uplands neighbourhood is located from Bathurst St on the west and goes east to Yonge St.  It runs from Centre St. on the south and goes north to the 407.  This location is one of the reasons why this is a demand and sought after area. It has immediate access to highways and runs on yonge St.  The communites are made up of a mixed population, including a large Jewish population.  The area is very much family oriented with lots of schools, parks, synagogues, communities centres and shopping within the community or nearby.

Uplands is regarded as one of Thornhills most prestigious mature neighbourhoods. Intertwining with the Uplands golf course this neighbourhood is known for it's large mature executive properties. The neighbourhood mostly consists of lager detached and ranch style bungalows though over the years we have seen townhouse units developed in the Rosedale North community of the Uplands. Houses in this area tend to sell for over  a million dollars. Uplands has a diverse mixture of ages in homes from heritage homes to homes updated or custom homes. Many of the homes in this area were ranch style bungalows that have been renovated to large luxury 2 storey executive homes. Prices range from mid 700's to over 1 million.
